It is never too late to start anything but that age is certainly not too late. Work hard, attend your lessons, listen to instruction and you will get where you want to be.
first question- no. it’s not too late. 2nd question- what?
Just think when your 26 and thinking ‘what would i be like now if i started etc) ten years ago? Its never that late but the sooner you do something then the better you will be in 10 years!!!!
Yeah of course you can master the art. Shogun didnt start his Muay Thai until he was 16 and BJJ at 17. GSP never wrestled until a few years ago and now look at him considered one of the best wrestlers in mma.
Are you kidding? That’s the perfect age to start training. Any earlier and there are issues with emotional maturity. Any later and you tend to have problems maintaining a job and training aggressively.
It should take between 3 to 5 years to earn a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. It actually took me 6 years to get mine, because I went off to college…where I continued to train and take classes…but I wanted to progress through the ranks with the school that I started with.
no – to achieve a black belt you must start your martial arts training at no more than 3 years of age, any older than that and you turn into a computer nerd who asks naive questions about how old you have to start martial arts training in order to achieve a black belt.
Don’t listen to the guy above me, he is a hypocrite and has no idea what he talking about. No, it is not too late to start.
I just started, and I’m 15. My center doesn’t even let anyone under my age do BJJ.
NO, 14 -16 is not too old to start training in karate or any other martial art. I have had students start in their 20s and 30s and they became very good. So join work hard, listen to your instructor and stay focused on your goals.
Don’t worry about the black belt, if you work hard and demonstrate the proper skills and attitude the belt will come.
Good luck!!!
I just started taekwondo at 24, and being over weight by 48kg (I’ve since lost 20kg).
14-16 years is most reasonable. Though don’t expect them to go beyond national champions, unless you’re going to be training them 2-4 hours a day.
A black belt in wtf taekwondo can be gained in around 4 years.
If you spend two hours at the taekwondo club(though that’s similar to taekwondo), 2 hrs of boxing, 2 hours at a mma gym, 2 hrs perhaps muay thai rather than kickboxing (or whatever is closer). He’ll become a champ in no time.
The more hours you do in say, in taekwondo, you may be able to master to a full belt in one grading in 3 months.
But getting a black belt is only about being able to teach the art, and suffering the inexperience when it comes to competitions.
If you want your 14-16 year old to be Jacky Chan or Bruce Lee good. You could put them through something like free running or dance.
Ultimately, a 14-16 year old has to themselves want it bad enough and commit to it as part of a life style choice. Otherwise they’ll give up.
NO ITs NOT TOO LATE.
Your are still pretty young.
Absolutly!! In fact, it’s probably the perfect time to start! I know how you feel though, when I wanted to start Taekwondo I was worried about the same thing, but now that I’m in it I see how stupid I was!
i am 16 and doing boxing
It is not too late, it is perfect time, actually, it is early. I didnt start until I was older, but I am happy that I got into martial arts though. Train hard and you will be on your way!
not at 15 you are conciderd an adult this only means you are able to take the adult classes. some ninjutsu schools dont teach children or under 15. and Tae kwon do is a faster track to black belt so good luck but no not to late.
