Unusual Martial Arts training?

Roger Huerta UFC Fight Night 19 Walk-Out Shirt

I once saw on a tv show wherein mixed martial arts athletes (and another similar show with more mixed athletes) travel the world to participate in the most brutal, traditional or otherwise unique training they could find. One was where they trained with an Amazonian tribe for a boat race, another was when one went high into a Japanese mountain and did things like punch trees, thrust his hands into bunches of bamboo, and walk up steps on his fists. Could someone please give me more information on techniques similar to the latter? Thanks.

what has the evolution of mix martial arts done for or against traditional martial arts?

Roger Huerta UFC Fight Night 19 Walk-Out Shirt

before Gracie grace the martial arts stage ,all we heard of traditional martial arts was KARATE or THAI KWAN DO ! SOME KICK BOXING but no one ever dreamt that taking all of these fighting styles to the ground was the secret to defeating them quite easily, now in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship everyone thought the karate guys would dominate Gracie and it would be a quick one two punch with a huuua ! eeeeeeaaaaahh! grunt and that would be it! i mean isn’t that what every karate instructor in America preaches to their students every day?well it ended quickly alright, for the Karate guy ,on the ground begging Gracie for his mama! so my question is here ,has the karate and such martial arts suffered loss of business because of MMA?i mean isn’t this what Bruce Lee’s point was all along(that he got a lot of flack for by the way),why teach something and charge on top of that for that certain something without getting out there and proving that it really works?now karate can’t even qualify for UFC,they don’t even get past the try outs why?
Regulas sorry man ! i just didn’t see any answer to my question in there! but better luck next time!
Clowns your name says it all! of course there is a try out period, you think a truck driver can just go to Dana White and say "aa Dana i am fightin in your next UFC" and bam he is fighting in the UFC 109?come on!look at kimbo slice how long has he been trying to get a shot at the UFC main event?Dana is smart he use to do the try out before the show with no one watching but now he is making money off that also ,it’s called "the ultimate fighter" but before the ultimate fighter a person still has to try out and Dana will pick maybe the top 50 and out of that you will get the fighters with potential who will ultimately end up in "The Ultimate Fighter"and its the pre ultimate fighter level that you can use whatever style you want to see if you can get in to the farm team so to speak! and that is where karate fighters lose out!
for the person who is spouting Machita,he uses karate based punches but he also has BJJ and in the last fight in my opinion he lost badly,he took a lot of punishment
Brian i agree with you about wrestling becoming a big part of UFC,MMA ,i believe chinese Kung Fu is the best martial arts of them all but i am referring to the japanese arts like karate, chinese martial arts are not readily available as the japanese arts are,so i am not including them! i am a student of chinese martial arts so that i know for a fact! it is way superior to MMA,but when bruce lee came out and beat up a whole bunch of japanese arts karate lost most of their credibility to the point that they started telling their prospective students they were in fact kung fu and karate just to survive!i am just wondering how a sensi will explain to his students why karate can’t consistantly be in the top 10 of all MMA fighters,ma-cheat-a without BJJ would never be champion or even in the top 50 MMA fighters !
to the person asking for proof of a try out, tell me how does one get to be in the octagon with out a try out?are you saying that Dana White will put someone in the octagon like that
why would Dana White put somebody at risk in the ring wihout making sure they are good enough to take a punch from a MMA fighter or can go 15 mins of the toughest rounds they can ever endure or what if they get hurt?and sue Dana?you are not thinking your answers through before you click SUBMIT!
HA HA Jake lo you and clown should go back to your dojo and think about this before you keep showing your cluelessness are you blonds?Gracie didn’t beat a whole bunch of grapplers ,he beat all the karate guys with 20 yrs experience ,in fact it took Gracie like less than a 2 mins to beat like 4 or 5 karate experts in a row before winning a easy first Utimate Fighting Championship, not like now where he would only fight a challenger and in the next UFC Gracie had to fight again karate guys from the bottom, which looking back now didn’t make sense he should not have had to but again he beat up yor sensi in 2 mins so take yor style and your beating like a man and get out of my office!
